About

Born in a Kurdish village in Elbistan (Turkey), Devriş Çimen has lived in Europe for more than 35 years.

His political and journalistic work focuses on the political, social and cultural developments in Kurdistan, Turkey, Iraq, Syria, Iran and the wider Middle East. His aim is to bring these issues — through journalism and politics — into the international press and political debate, and to carry international developments back into the region. International mediation and political bridge-building are central aspects of his work.

Alongside his regular journalistic work, in 2011 he co-founded, together with a team, Civaka Azad – Kurdish Centre for Public Relations in Frankfurt. During the same period, he was a member of the editorial board of the German-language Kurdistan Report.

From autumn 2019 to summer 2023, he served as the European representative of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in Brussels.

His analyses, reports, interviews and guest contributions appear internationally, including in the German and English editions of Jacobin magazine, ZNetwork, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ), the German-language Kurdistan Report and the Italian news portal The Blackcoffee, as well as in Kurdish media such as the daily newspaper Yeni Özgür Politika and the Firat News Agency (ANF).
